A Rude Intrusion :: Day 76

 This is my blog for day 76 of cancer treatment and recovery, Sunday, 24 Sep 2017.

THIS AND SATURDAY'S BLOG POSTINGS ARE LATE . . . APOLOGIES!

No doctor appointments today, of course, as it's Sunday.

Nancy and I woke around 8:00 AM and started getting up-and-around in our hotel room downtown. We didn't want to eat at the ridiculously-overpriced hotel restaurant, and couldn't get our friends to meet us for breakfast (the female half of that un-named team was most likely still asleep, as a little birdie told me that she had had a few at the wedding). We called Nancy's sister to see if she and Bryan wanted to meet us, and so we arranged to drive to their house.

Check-out was un-eventful, and so we walked over two blocks to where ParkWhiz had found me discounted parking ($25 for more than 24 hours, less than the $46 I would have paid the hotel), put our suitcases in the trunk, wedding clothes on the hook in the back seat and navigated our way out of downtown and to the Mount Greenwood neighborhood (roughly 95th and California).

We ended up going to a "nice breakfast place", where the $26 breakfast I would have had at the hotel ran me $8.50. But with three eggs instead of two, and with pancakes, too! Breakfast was good, and while one of the foods I was looking forward to having (I put a list together in a different post) was "breakfast sausage at a 'good breakfast place'", I still have enough pain when eating so as to say this did not satisfy that entry. I'll give it another try (I know, "hold me back, hold me back") when I'm better. But I ate most of the pancakes and scrambled eggs, and some of the hash browns (and all of the sausage), and the former two went down without having to consume too much water at the same time - none, in fact, most of the time. Small bites work best, no matter what I'm eating, I've found.

We headed home after watching the first half of the Bear game at Linda and Bryan's, and I got to see the end of the game. A Bear's win, too! Not that it didn't come with some trials and tribulations. Then the Cubs won, shutting out Milwaukee, so it was a good day! I finished the evening by watching the new Star Trek series. Not sure about it . . . might be good, might not. I think the premise of a "number one" doing what was done in the show (I'm not going to give it away, in case any of you recorded the show) is weak, at best.

I had leftovers for dinner - an Oscar Mayer all-beef hot dog, some baked beans and German potato salad. Unfortunately, I found that the potato salad, especially, really hurt the right side of my mouth. Much more so, in fact, than when we first had these things, Friday night. Curious, but not un-expected, I suppose. The potato salad is made with vinegar, I think.

In general terms, I'm feeling pretty good. Taking all my meals by mouth, with no substantial pain during the day (though some when I eat, especially on the right side) and no other significant side-effects from treatment. All in all, pretty good. Tomorrow will be four weeks to the day from my last radiation treatment. I only hope the next few weeks prove that the treatments have worked, and that I have continued healing in my mouth.

Today's YouTube music is again on the quieter and more reflective side: Sometimes in Winter, Blood, Sweat and Tears - Link. No good reason. Just a really good song by another band I liked in the early 1970s, in high school.
