A Rude Intrusion :: Day 59

This is my blog for day 59 of cancer treatment and recovery, Wednesday, 6 Sep 2017.

No doctor's appointments today!

Went to bed at 10:00 PM, woke just before 4:00 AM, fell back asleep and got up at 7:40 AM . . . lazy morning!

After giving myself a tube feeding, I'm going to try to have a scrambled egg. Or not; we're out of milk! Maybe at dinner time. I did try to have some applesauce today, but that burned the back corner of my mouth, where the tumor had been. I turned to ice cream, having a small bowl. But it didn't taste right, and while I ate it all, it was not enjoyable.

Put up one of the new blinds in our room. Took a couple of tries to get it right, but it's installed nonetheless. Trouble is, I was pretty well bushed after I was done. No stamina to speak of, whatsoever.

Our friend Susan stopped by with her adorable grandson for a late afternoon visit. We had a nice time, ordered a pizza from Nancy's (I ate a very small piece of crust and a very small piece of cheese) and generally enjoyed a long conversation.

Besides my little bit of pizza (and really was just a bit) I also had a scrambled egg for dinner. My daily intake, besides the feed, was 400 calories. Shy of the 2300 I need to maintain my weight by about 83%, but it's something. Most I've had by mouth since July, I think. Eating still gives me no joy, but it doesn't hurt when it goes down. So there's that.

Did I mention that I've been dreaming about eating? One night I was at Portillo's (hot dog joint), and another in some bar having a burger - in my dreams, of course. I guess I'm ready to start eating again.

In honor of my dreaming about food, let today's YouTube music be Roly Poly, as done by the Don Kelley band and Johnny Hiland - Link. Don happens to be our neighbor's brother-in-law, and we saw him and his band at Robert's Western World in Nashville last year.
