A Rude Intrusion :: Day 70

This is my blog for day 70 of cancer treatment and recovery, Monday, 18 Sep 2017.

No doctor appointments today. In fact, I have none until the end of the month.

I took Nancy to her treatment today, then returned home, first getting the car washed (it was a little piggy) and then going out to the grocery store. I also stopped at Home Depot to discuss replacing our decking, moving from cedar to Trex, Azek or another composite product. Then it was back home to make lunch - French toast - and clean up the kitchen.

Returning to the hospital, I went down to the radiation oncology area to see Karen, Dr Mohideen's nurse, and let her know that I've started taking all my food by mouth. She had me step on a scale, and I weighed in at 245. I think that's down from the last weight she had for me, but I believe that my weight loss has stopped and I've stabilized it in the high 230's (without clothing).

Nancy was done at about 4:15, and we packed up and headed home. Nancy wanted to have a cheeseburger, so I put four of them on the grill. I was able to eat one - no bun, but with ketchup - with only minor irritation in the throat and the back right part of my mouth, where the tumor had been ("had been" - I certainly hope this is the case).

The "big thing" last night was a phone call to my half-brother. We spoke for a little more than 45 minutes, agreeing to get together at some point. I realize that it must a real surprise to find out that you had a "new relative" you never ever expected. On my side, though, it's something I've always known could be possible. And it's great to have found another brother and another sister, to say nothing of finding my birth-mother.

Today's YouTube music video is Walk Away, from the James Gang, featuring Joe Walsh - Link. A great song by a musician who has his share of ups and downs, especially with regard to drug and alcohol use. But here he is, years later, clean and sober, still playing like a master!
