A Rude Intrusion :: Day 73

This is my blog for day 73 of cancer treatment and recovery, Thursday, 21 Sep 2017.

No doctor appointments today. In fact, I have none until the end of the month.

Got up and around this morning, then took  trip up to Germantown, WI, just under two hours away, to look at a Yamaha organ that is for sale, at a relatively low price. It was a beautiful day to take a drive through southern Wisconsin, and I stayed off the interstates, for the most part. as they're working on I-43 right around the zoo. So I got to see a lot of the suburbs of Milwaukee.

The organ itself was an older model, and while it had various sound settings, rhythm settings and MIDI capability, I decided that it would not be a good fit for the music room. I don't feel that the day was wasted because I didn't purchase the instrument; rather, I feel good about taking the drive and keeping the cash in my pocket. The man who offered it for sale - John - and I had a nice conversation about a number of things, too. He was a genuinely nice gentleman.

I stopped at Culver's and got a two-piece chicken tender meal with honey mustard dipping sauce, coleslaw, a root beer (no ice) and a glass of water. I was able to eat everything without issue, using the water to supplement my still somewhat-dry mouth. No custard, though. I've stayed away from custard for the past few weeks as it lost its taste. I think I've gotten "sweet"  back, though, so I'll have to try some in the near future.

Nancy and I spoke by phone on the way back home. Tim had invited us over to see their "spooky town" set up in the living room, so we went over to Cary when I got back home. We brought them a new piece for their town - a truck. They thanked us and added it to their layout, near the "spooky" Gulfstream trailer. (Add ghost sounds here.)

We had a really nice visit, then went out to Bed, Bath and Beyond to pick up a new painting for the family room. Once we got home, we hung it above the fireplace. It looks great! (You can see it below.) Then it was dinner time, so we polished off the last of the sirloin steak. It feels so good to be able to sit with Nancy and share a meal. I wonder if she'll go for pizza Monday . . . she's kind of protective of me, not wanting me to eat something that's going to adversely affect the sore inside the back right side of my mouth or the right side of my throat. Which is nice . . .

Can someone tell me why Blogger keeps flagging the "cole" in "cole slaw" as a spelling error? Oh, never mind - it's one word. And - here's a little knowledge for you - it's from the Dutch words "kool" ("cabbage"), and "sla" ("salad").  Therefore, "koolsla" means "cabbage salad", which we've bastardized to "coleslaw". Who knew?
