A Rude Intrusion :: Day 60

This is my blog for day 60 of cancer treatment and recovery, Friday, 8 Sep 2017.

No doctor's appointments today!

Woke up early again, just around 5:00 AM. But this time I got up! At 5:30 AM, anyway. Then I took a nap in the afternoon. Balance!

Went out to CostCo, Wal-Mart and Binny's Beverage Depot today. Felt like one of my Saturday shopping trips, except I didn't hit Joseph's and Home Depot or Menard's, or both. It felt good to get out-and-about. Might have contributed to my being tired, but it also contributed to my getting in over 5,000 steps for the day.

Amy came out with Clara and Henrik today! It is really great to see them. Clara got out the doll house and other toys a few minutes after they arrived. The family room is littered with toys now, and it looks great! So nice to have the little ones here. Henrik is getting big! By this time next year he'll be into the toys, too.

Nancy's mom came over for dinner, spaghetti, and after everyone had filled their plates, I decided to taste a small bit. The good news? It tasted just like spaghetti sauce (remember that the taste buds are affected by the radiation treatments). The bad news? It really burned when it hit the back of my throat.

I was told that the radiation treatments would act on me for a period of two weeks after their conclusion, and it appears that is the case. I think my throat feels as bad as it ever has. But they also told me that it would rapidly improve after that, and I'm hopeful that is the case.

Today's YouTube music is from one of the finest pianists I've ever heard - Dave McKenna. Dave passed away a few years ago, so I never got a chance to hear him live, but he had a kind of "three handed" style that I've not heard from many, if any, others. Here he is on record, playing Lazy River - Link. Search for him on YouTube and watch some of his live stuff - incredible!
