A Rude Intrusion :: Day 75

 This is my blog for day 75 of cancer treatment and recovery, Saturday, 23 Sep 2017.

THIS AND SUNDAY'S BLOG POSTINGS ARE LATE . . . APOLOGIES!

No doctor appointments today. In fact, I have none until the end of the month.

Woke up to find that the Cubs had won another one-run game in ten innings over the Brewers! Looks like they might be on to another division championship and playoff run. They certainly seem to be peaking at the right time.

Nancy and I have a wedding to attend today, at the "W Lakeshore" hotel in Chicago. I won't have any problems fitting into one of my suits, being down in weight as I am. They may be too big for me, though!

Am sitting here in the family room this morning, blinds up, window open. There's a cool breeze sneaking in and it feels pretty good. But Chicago is heading to a high temperature of 93 today, so I'm pretty sure we're going to be spending most of our time inside the hotel. We had planned on walking down Michigan Avenue today, but that's not going to happen. Too warm. So we're not planning on leaving at ten o'clock any longer, but at 1:00 PM, to get to the hotel in time for a 3:00 PM check-in.

The drive to downtown Chicago was terrible - traffic was slow and really packed, even on the side roads. One thing that complicated the trip for us - I forgot my medicine. And the doctor told me that I should NOT go cold-turkey when quitting (this is medicine I started only with my treatments). So we called ahead to a Walgreen's, and they told us they'd fill a small prescription for me. Turns out, it was not even one block from our hotel, on inner Lake Shore Drive. But getting there was a difficult drive.

The hotel itself was nothing to write home about - not that anybody "writes home" anymore. In fact, the room had slightly-damaged furniture, which leads me to say that it was an "upscale" hotel in their advertisements, but not in practice. And why am I expected to pay $26 for breakfast when I can go down the street and pay $11.50? Is it my privilege to overpay for crap in your hotel?

The wedding itself was nice. Kyle and Lindsey got married on the sixth floor, outside, with the lake and Navy Pier as their backdrop. And it was much cooler downtown than back home! The ceremony was nice, and short enough that people didn't wiggle around in their seats too much. Then it was on to cocktail hour (I had a coke), and pleasant conversation with friends.

We moved up to the 33rd floor for dinner, drinks, dancing and all of the other wedding-stuff that goes on. I had the chicken, which was good. The sides, not so much. Didn't eat the salad, either, though it looked good, because I haven't had and kind of salad since starting to eat again, as I don't know if I could get it down. The wedding cake was good! Oh, and so was the coffee. Other than that, I had another coke.

I didn't dance with Nancy after dinner, or anyone else, but enjoyed more conversation with friends. The view from this floor was really nice, too, though it was back into the city. I went back to the room around 11:00 PM, saying "good night" to the bride and groom before I left. They are really nice young people, both of them, and I pray that as time goes by their love for each other only deepens.

Nancy joined me after going to the "after party". She came up to the room at around 1:30 AM. I'd already been asleep for a while, though BBC America was still playing (with the sound at a low level).

In honor of the bride and groom, here's Bette Midler's take on Chapel of  Love - Link. It's a great, and very upbeat version!
